iPhone 5 lightning cable and everything haters say about Apple

You guessed it right.

I'm not wrong, all you do is recite what all the apple haters recite. When I got the Iphone 4, I was an apple hater. To this day, I'm still an apple hater however when I got the iphone 4 I was faced with either succumbing to my prejudice and get an inferior phone or get the best phone all things considered. (pre jailbreak) It had a front facing camera and it 5 meg rear cam took better picks than all the android 8 meg cams in every comparison.

....this is where Apple shines and the hates will NEVER understand

I don't understand the people who are saying that Android is losing to Apple when Android is almost 70% of the smartphone market and growing. 1.5 million activations by the end of the year. These are facts and everything else is just an opinion. P.s. who cares what platform is better, these companies aren't paying you so just buy what's right for you.

What are you talking about. You can do everything you mouthed off about with an Iphone 4s. Both my iphone 4 and my iphone 4s was easy to jailbreak and easy to modify with ifile. Even before I used Ifile there were lots of mod on cydia. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Even so, ok your like one of two people who don't like iphone. For every one of you there are thousands of droid users either switching to iphone or wanting to.

It gets interesting...

the conductors inside of the cable break or fray. It's actually a huge problem. Apple lost a class-action lawsuit over the T-shaped connector, and the newer L-shape connectors aren't much better, Chargers on the apple store (apple.com) are all rated 1.5 - 2 stars because of their awful durability and high price.

Most people hate Apple because it's the cool thing to do. There's tons of misinformation about the company that makes little sense once you actually look up things about Apple (for example, a lot of people seem to think only Apple use Foxconn for manufacturing when tons of other companies do as well) When I mentioned I owned a Mac at work a guy went on a giant tirade about how I was an idiot because I overpaid for an underpowered laptop that was completely useless. I mentioned to him that for the type of laptop it is (not a consumer grade laptop, but one that fits in with higher end professional machines), it is not actually overpriced, and that it could in fact play both of the games he primarily bought a gaming laptop for (Don't get me started on those things). I never said a single thing other than that I had a Mac when he asked me what kind of computer I had and it drove him nuts. Sure there's annoying people that brag about their Macs, but at this point I think the number of people who pointlessly complain about people who praise Macs far outnumber the pro-Mac people so much that they end up being more annoying than the pro-Mac people.

I think a lot of the general hate comes from people not knowing the history of the company and viewing things superficially. I was one of these people. Then I read Walter Isaacson's Steve Jobs biography.

The number of haters rises in direct correlation with Apple's success.

It is now the largest company in the world, alternating almost daily with Exxon, measured by market value. It is impossible for a company to rise to that position without incurring dislike, jealousy, even hatred.

On a more humble level, the people who have invested a lot of money and emotion in products made by rival manufacturers are not going to be pleased at Apple's success. Or so it seems.

For me, Apple make the best technology products in the world. The most focussed, the best designed, the longest-lasting, the most pleasurable to use. I've owned products from other companies. But I don't hate Microsoft or Android or Samsung or any other technology company, much less spend my days bitching about them on the internet.

I just think their products are not as focussed, well-designed or as long lasting or pleasurable to use as those made by Apple.

I have had this childish nonsense from PC users for over 20 years.
There is nothing that Apple do wrong that other comparative companies also do.
There is nothing Apple makes that a comparative company makes.
There is nothing you can say or do that will make the 'deniers' see sense.
So I don't bother anymore.
If you like using your powerful PC, with it's interface like a 1950s circuit diagram, go ahead.

RIP Jobbsy.

Exactly!
Apple exudes “coolness” because their designed products flourished in a market filled with back-of-the-box bulletpoint checklist products.
Watches, however, are already concerned with design and are already appealing even to the most average of Joes. Apple would face a steep cliff when trying to technologize a market entirely focused on anachronisms and authenticity. The fashion-conscious hordes who wouldn’t dare dream of owner something other than a Macbook wouldn’t be caught dead with a “smartwatch”.
To be honest, if Apple ever makes an overt move with a techie watch, I’d laugh as they alienate the mass market for nerds who just slam them on forums anyway.

The technology just isn’t there at this point. Even when Steve was there introducing “revolutionary” new products, they waited until they could get the user experience right for the average consumer, not just techie, first-adopters who are willing to put up with some of the hassles in products that are first arrivals.
Heck, the iPod wasn’t the first mp3 player, the iPhone wasn’t the first smartphone, and the iPad wasn’t the first tablet, but they were all the first product that really mattered because they waited until they could get the user experience just right.

How on earth could you say the 3rd gen was the worst? The 6th gen is second only to the 3rd in being my favourite! Okay, the chrome back got easily scratched up. But otherwise it was a beautiful device – perfect size, and it introduced video. In my opinion, it goes: 3rd, 6th, 4th, 2nd, 1st, 5th, 7th. I actually bought a 5th gen, and I liked it, but its main feature (the camera) really wasn’t that good. The only thing I didn’t like about the 6th when it came out was that you couldn’t watch videos, but now I think about it, it was always pretty hard to watch videos on screens that small anyway.

The lightning cable for iphone 5

This is CRAP. Another spin by apple to control everything about their users… And those buying this crap are too dumb to realize it.

Much ado about nothing. Why would third party cable people not use the readily available technology that third part accessory dock makers will have to use? Duh! Unless you believe that there will not be any third party docks, chargers, heart monitors, etc. …but that would be stupid.

Only fools would use email, or even the USPS for that matter. Who needs that when you have envelopes with wax seals, and someone to take it wherever you need by horse – you know, the way they used to do it back in the day. What more could I need? Photo attachments, you say? Just throw a picture into the envelope too!

So we can't tell if it is a design flaw, or a limited manufacturing flaw. My money is on the latter, one of the cross beams has gone out of skew on the treadle, obviously. Happens all the time, but is usually picked up QA.

Ordinarily, I'd say "stop being so damn picky" but as Apple charges a HUGE margin on ANY of its products I feel consumers are right to moan about even the smallest problems with Apple products.

Re: the white plastic surrounding the USB end slides right of revealing the medal connectors
Wait - since when were USB connectors proprietary?

"Looks the same on the iPad / iPod / iPhone but you can't use the same devices with them. Even amongst the same product line (e.g. the iPod) they vary the spec."
What does this mean? That you can't plug an iPod into an iPhone?
Can't say I've ever had any trouble with any 30-pin cable on any device but that said I haven't owned many for a long time...

The 'relevant point' is that it's crappy manufacturing of the USB plug end, not the proprietary end.
They could have continued using the existing 30 pin connector but used cables from a different manufacturer, and could still have the same problem.
They could even have used a micro-USB connector on the phone, and still had the same problem, as it's the USB plug on the other end that is the issue.
This could also have happened with any Android phone, camera, anything that uses USB cables. It's a bad manufacturing process due to trying to reduce the cost of goods sold to maximise profit. Could have happened to any company, as they all try to minimise costs and maximise profit.

Between this and the iPhone-4s-just-extruded form factor, St. Jony really phoned it in this time. Too busy hobnobbing with Bono, brainstorming AIDS-themed DSLR's or whatever the F it is this time. Or was it Livestrong he's involved with? So hard to keep track of the turtlenecked beautiful people.

It was probably the female sockets that are to blame. A lot of computer equipment has ones that aren't specced properly. I bet it works fine with all current generation Apple hardware. Not sure why people would use an iPhone with a non-Mac computer anyway. This is a usual Apple bashing by the Reg. Either make sure all your USB ports are up to spec or find another yourself another phone. This isn't Apples problem.

Of course, you have absolutely no basis for that claim. And given that the iPhone 5 has it's own power brick IN THE BOX, that nice Mr. Occam would suggest that since postulating an random old piece of APPLE kit hanging around is hardly simple, the most likely explanation is the one that makes you look like a bit of a blowhard fanboi.
Still, if your point is that Apple has repeatedly produced non-compliant, non-interoperable USB stuff, so it's hardly surprising if they've done it yet again, then I'll agree with you.
(Tthe whole point of "Lighting" is so Apple can control the accessory market. It's not like it does anyone except them any favors...)

Hold on. Doesn't the USB spec say that plugs should have a feature on the top side to feel which way is up to help plugging it in by touch (including helping the visually impared?) Please tell me that the little white sleeves now have a braille type dot on or something now.

You mean... a *MARK!* Something to horrible to corrupt the clean Apple white? Blasphemous!
My mac pro (Which I only got for dual-xeon goodness) doesn't even have an eject button on the outside. I once got a disc stuck in the 'superdrive' and had to open the computer up to extract it.
Incidentially, as I imagine we all knew, the 'superdrive' is actually your plain sata-interfaced DVD-writer. Even has an eject button on, there's just no way to reach it while the computer is assembled.

I just checked the USB connector for my webcam, and one side of it has the USB logo on it, which corresponds to the part of the male connector that covers the contacts. (And, thanks for pointing that out, as I never really paid any attention to that spec requirement.)
Now, whether or not Apple includes a USB spec compliant cable is something I can not speak to.
Kit made by that rotten to the core company will never find its way into my home.

It's now come to light that female USB A connectors have been manufactured incorrectly for years! Apple have 'got it right' and when hardware manufactures catch up it will 'just work'. If hardware manufacturers don't step up, Apple will have 'pioneered' a 'new standard' in connectivity, (and will probably patent it too).

To our customers,

At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.

We launched Maps initially with the first version of iOS. As time progressed, we wanted to provide our customers with even better Maps including features such as turn-by-turn directions, voice integration, Flyover and vector-based maps. In order to do this, we had to create a new version of Maps from the ground up.

There are already more than 100 million iOS devices using the new Apple Maps, with more and more joining us every day. In just over a week, iOS users with the new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations. The more our customers use our Maps the better it will get and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you.

While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app.

Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.

Tim Cook
Apple’s CEO
